There was pandemonium at the Zappa axis of Asaba in Delta State at the
weekend when a 23-year-old girl allegedly stabbed her female neighbour
with a dagger in a quarrel over a boyfriend.
The embittered lover said her boyfriend had been faithful to her until her neighbour came to the area last year.
According
to her, she and her neighbour had reached an agreement to leave her
boyfriend alone which she acceded to. She, therefore, decided to drive
her message home when she saw the duo together in a romantic
conversation.
She woke the residents as she was seen with a
dagger which she eventually allegedly used to inflict injuries on her
rival’s body before help came the victim’s way and she was rushed to the
hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.
The
assailant was said to have laid an ambush for her at the route to where
they fetched water. Upon sighting her, she lunged at her but the victim
swiftly dodged the knife that was directed at her stomach, but the knife
got her hands and other parts of her body before she was rescued.
The
cry of the injured girl attracted neighbours who came immediately to
the scene and were able to recover the weapon from the enraged girl. The
attacker was later said to have gone to a shop nearby, where she picked a
bottle from the crates and attempted to stab her victim again.
Police sources at the ‘A’ Division Police Station Asaba confirmed her arrest.
