Thibaut Courtois – 9
Demonstrated just why he is Chelsea’s No.1 with an assured and confident performance in goal. The Belgian made several important saves in the first half - including a brilliant reflex stop to keep out Luis Suarez’s 30th-minute effort - and denied Gerard Pique’s from the spot later.
Branislav Ivanovic – 7
Captaining the side in the absence of John Terry, the Serb didn’t have too many problems at right-back until Pedro came on, with the winger’s runs making Ivanovic work hard in the second half.
Kurt Zouma – 8
The 20-year-old produced a strong performance at the heart of Chelsea’s defence – trying his best to keep Suarez’s shot off the line - and also helped going forward, delivering the ball that led to Hazard’s opener and forcing Ter Stegen into a save before that.
Gary Cahill – 8
Formed part of Chelsea’s strong back line and combined well to keep out Rakitic’s 39th-minute shot through sheer pressure on the ball. He then sacrificed himself to head in the equaliser and was subsequently forced off with a bloody nose.
Cesar Azpilicueta - 4
It was the left-back’s poor headed clearance that gifted the ball to Suarez and led to Barcelona’s equaliser.
Cesc Fabregas – 6
Delivered two good free kicks early on and provided the pass for Costa that should have resulted in a goal.
Nemanja Matic – 6
Assured in midfield as ever, the 26-year-old didn’t have too many problems with holding the fort in the middle of the park.
Kenedy – 7
The 19-year-old started the match after Fluminense had given permission for the forward to play - and he certainly impressed. He worked hard in both defence and attack and showed off the potential that he possesses.
Oscar – 6
Put in a good 45-minute showing and could have scored but was denied by the post in the 24th minute. Replaced at half time.
Eden Hazard - 8
Superb work to open the scoring in the ninth minute after he skipped past two Barcelona players and drove in a low show past Ter Stegen. The Belgian was a constant threat and, as such, was also on the end of tackles.
Diego Costa – 5
The striker will be remembered for skipping past Bartra only to drive a great opportunity to give the Blues a 2-0 lead wide. He was a threat going forwards but couldn’t quite find his finishing touch.

Ramires – 4 The midfielder should have scored in the 78th minute but drove his shot wide despite being in lots of space.
John Terry – 6 The skipper was at ease in defence.
John Obi Mikel – 6 Did well to get rid of danger when it presented itself late on.
Loic Remy – 7 Produced a lovely cross for Falcao but couldn’t quite prove a potent threat in front of goal. The France striker did, however, convert the deciding penalty to clinch the win.
Victor Moses – 6 Converted his spot-kick and created numerous crosses into the box from the right.
Radamel Falcao – 6 Scored his second penalty in as many games and showed good movement off the ball.
Nathaniel Chalobah – 6 After coming on to replace the injured Cahill, the 20-year-old helped snuff out a late Barca attack.
Barcelona
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen – 7The goalkeeper was on par with his Chelsea counterpart, Courtois, after making several superb saves in the first half.
Douglas – 7
The right-back demonstrated some good work down the flank and got involved in Barcelona’s attacks before coming off injured with a thigh injury, which will keep him out of action for eight weeks.
Sergi Roberto – 6
Replaced Douglas and did well to provide a threat down the right flank.
Marc Bartra – 5
The Spain international did well at times at the heart of Barcelona’s defence, but let himself down after giving away possession early on.
Jeremy Mathieu – 6
Considering he was playing alongside Bartra in an unfamiliar central defensive pairing, the Frenchman did clear danger but he the duo did not look fully at ease.
Adriano – 7
The left-back was a constant threat down the flank and helped in building up Barcelona’s attacks.
Ivan Rakitic – 7
He proved a threat in front of goal and helped build up play from midfield.
Sergio Busquets – 6
There were no real issues for the defensive midfielder during the game.
Gerard Gumbau – 6
The 20-year-old Barca B midfielder put in a good showing to protect the back four.
Munir El Haddadi – 7
The 19-year-old’s pace and movement caused issues for Chelsea on the wings. He is a real talent in the making.
Sandro Ramirez – 8
The forward gave Barca a 2-1 lead in the second half with an impressive curling shot into the far corner while also producing a powerful penalty in the shootout.
Luis Suarez – 8
Was only denied in the first half by the excellent Courtois but finally got his goal after capitalising on Azpilicueta’s mistake to superbly dink the ball into the net in 51st minute.

Thomas Vermaelen - 5
Helped sure up the defence in second period but needs more game time.
Jordi Alba – 6
Got a yellow card for a rash tackle on Moses in the second half.
Sergi Samper – 6
Barcelona’s highly-rated 20-year-old defensive midfielder enjoyed a good game.
Alan Halilovic - 5
Made some tricky runs late on, but should have done better in the shootout after he opted to do a cheeky penalty that ended up hitting the crossbar.
Rafinha – 7
Played a brilliant pass to Sandro that led to a goal, and shone throughout the game.
Pedro Rodriguez – 7
Provided pace down the left flank, robbed Courtois of possession and hit the side netting after coming on. A real positive performance from the winger.
