A sexagenarian, Nana Shehu, was on Wednesday hauled up before an Upper
Sharia Court, Tudun-Wada in Zaria for allegedly biting off her
neighbour’s right ear.
The accused, 60, who resides at Kwarin
Dangoma, Tudun Jukun, Zaria, is facing a two-count charge of assault and
causing grievous harm.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ado Ahmad-Kofardoka told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 24 at 11.00 a.m.
He said the accused had waylaid and assaulted the 22-year-old complainant, Ibrahim Saminu, by biting off his right ear.
According to Ahmad-Kofardoka, an iron door that Saminu carried mistakenly hit the accused’s shop which angered her.
“This led to verbal assault on the complainant.
“In
the ensuing argument, the accused physically assaulted the complainant
and in his attempt to defend himself, the accused pounced on Saminu and
bit off his right ear,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 213 and 241 of Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
In
his ruling, the judge, Malam Muhammad Aliyu, granted her bail in the
sum of N50, 000 with a surety in like sum and adjourned the case to June
1 for further hearing.
